Sometimes you find a great outfit in Second Life that you just want to talk about. I found the “Shirley” dress by !gO! at the Shiny Shabby round that opened today. I generally love Gocha Merlin’s creations and this dress is no exception. It has an 1920’s vibe and the fit for my Maitreya body worked perfectly. The texture is great and the bow is just perfect.

I decided it would be a great item to blog so I had to think of a good location. I remembered that I had recently seen that Jogi Schultz of Schultz Bros. had been building a early 20th century New York City for roleplay – and off I headed to the 1920’s New York Project. Based upon the website, I knew that the project had recently been moved over to a full sim so I wanted to check it out. The build is looking great even though it is still ‘in progress’. It is definitely a scene that lends to an active role play story and adventure.

Initially you land in a train or subway station which looks great and provides the necessary information. As you ascent up the stairs, you will see a ticket booth attendant patiently ready to serve. You then have the choice to teleport down to the project. The build has an elevated railway, some great shops that are perfect for the era, a night club, coffee houses, cafes and a ballroom. There is a waterfront with a park where you can just relax and visit with a passerby. The textures are realistic and the architecture is quite true to life as well.

West of the Rain 072616

A new sim has been raised from the great Linden sea… “West of the Rain” has come online recently. This gorgeous sim created by Oobleck (Allagash) and his partner NODNOL Jameson is loosely based upon the San Juan Islands in Washington state. If you look up the real life location, you will definitely see the similarities. The region has an adorable main street type area with hotel, cafes, book store, music store, general store, etc. No detail forgotten, it is a place you can poke your head in to nearly every build and find something of interest.

Upon landing you find yourself on the ferry pier, from there, just walk through the shops and around the highway or venture off-road as well. It’s a public and full region so bring your friends for an excursion. Stop in the coffee shop, visit the lighthouse, hang out around the lake, or sit on a beach… lots of nooks and places to relax. Be sure to visit the ship yard and find The Athletic Club where you might find someone spinning tunes.

Oobleck and NODNOL created the experience because they love the area in Washington. The description on the land is “A place for social, photography, ongoing events, music, and installations.” And as you see here, it is very photogenic.

Lately, I’ve spent a lot of time in world sitting at the sim creation known as Furillen. The environment is a stark frozen winter scene and is an interpretation of the real world location of the same name located in Sweden. Serene Footman is the Second Life resident that has pulled this location together. Much of the surroundings are quite representative of the real world location and I would imagine that Serene has created the ‘feeling’ of Furillen.

Within the homestead sim (Love of Life), there are areas to sit alone or with friends both inside and out in the elements. The minimalistic design offers a hotel building with each room containing a unique set-up. There are other building around the sim where no detail has been left out. You get the feeling that you are arriving just as someone else has vacated a room. The real world Furillen was the site of a limestone industry and Serene has also done a wonderful job incorporating that aspect as well with the space.

The entire area is perfect for those taking pics in Second Life both for artistic and for location pics. It can work well for a blog backdrop as well as snaps of a gathering of your friends. Serene has even run a couple of themed photography competitions in recent months and the interpretations by the various SL residents is amazing. Sometimes the snow flurries about and that’s awesome for some and not so much for others. I personally enjoy it as it offers a realism but it can be a problem for some graphics cards. The music on the stream is a custom playlist that Serene has put together especially for Furillen. This might be one of my favorite reasons to visit, but I think mostly it is because the music just “fits” the habitat so well.

Lately, there have been a smattering of events on the sim – from art showings, to ‘happy hours’ where there is a mad rush to join by sitting on one of the famous pier chairs, to an impromptu immersive art presentation by SaveMe Oh. The Furillen group is the best way to keep up with what’s happening – planned or spontaneous events.
