So I was sitting here perusing the Second Life Destination Guide looking at the editor’s picks and I happened on an interesting looking place called “X-Zone“.  The description that the creator has posted indicates that this is an immersive island that was influenced by Final Fantasy X and the creator’s own imagination.  You will find steampunk type builds, romantic areas, and a fantasical assortment of creations.  Lady Bird (Rikku Yalin) has done a wonderful job bringing these things together providing Second Life residents the opportunity to explore the sim … and even stay a while for a dance or on a beach or around a fire.  The sim is fascinating and truly beckons to be explored.

Are you a fan of the classic artists, such as Vincent Van Gogh?  Would you like to create pictures inspired by Van Gogh?  Do you enjoy new art installations and various mediums of art in one place?  Well, if your answer is yes, you will be happy to find that the Torell Nederland exists in Second Life.  This sim owned by Ellenilli Lavendel and Janfolkert Alter  is fully devoted to arts and culture with a Van Gogh village and several galleries in the sky.

The Van Gogh Village and surroundings includes quite a few 3D replications of Van Gogh paintings created by Mudpuddle Cleanslate.  It is interesting to wander around and find yourself in the scene of a painting.  This sim would provide great backdrops if you want to try recreating one of Vincent’s paintings.  From “Cafe Terrace at Night” to “Langlois Bridge at Arles” to “Gateway to the Farm”, you will find many scenes from the work of this classic artist, you can feel that you are part of the painting.

Back at the entry and teleporter area, you will want to visit the Bauhaus style galleries showcasing poetry, sculptures, paintings, and photography.  Also on this level, DB Bailey will be opening a gallery on March 1st so be sure to visit then too.

Torell Nederland 5

Another interesting installation is “The Tower” by Rebeca Bashly.  This build contains different levels accessed via teleporters in the shape of flowers.  As you move through each level, you will be greeted by sculptured human female figures in various states.    The sculptures, each with fantastic lighting and beautifully created by Ms. Bashly, will capture your imagination as you try to determine the story being portrayed.  Your imagination can take you anywhere, so let it and let it become your story.

Second Life really is a great venue for digital artists of many types.  Whether it is to honor those real life classic artists such as Van Gogh or to celebrate the current life artists of both this virtual world and the real one as well, the locations are generally always an interesting find.  Visit Torell Nederland today and find these wonderful exhibits.

MOS Sim 7

I was exploring the LEA sims again, and stumbled upon the LEA20 sim where I found Chic Aeon’s Machinima Open Studio (MOS) Project.  This Linden Endowment of the Arts – Artist in Residence sim was put together for those machinima creators that are looking for various backdrops for their videos. It is also a place to praise machinima created in Second Life.  The options for scenes on this sim are wide ranged.  From a rural valley scene and beachy style homes on a shore on the ground level to a city office scene, a New Orleans home, a gypsy camp, a home on a midnight beach, a subway street, and a host of studio settings with several different rooms set up at various levels in the sky, all are ready and waiting for the cameras to be pulled out and filming to begin.

But… it is also great that the MOS Project sim also welcomes avatars taking static pics as well.  The fact that the sim is set for rez with a 20 minute return setting is very helpful for those that want to drop a pose stand and take a pic in a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom,  a burlesque stage or in any of the other scenes available. The project is really a great idea, and one that provides some great options for backdrops for blog pics, fashion pics, or just wanting to have a certain type of scene.

Visit the LEA20 sim and explore the Machinima Open Studio Project soon.  Be sure to accept the teleport HUD which will be offered when you land.  This HUD will allow you to jump from scene to scene much more easily so you don’t have to go back to the entry.  For more pics, please visit the MOS Project blog as I am sure that if there are changes or additions, Chic will update there.
