Sculpty Creations Arctic Challenge!

The Sculpty Creations Arctic Challenge SLSA Surf Competition Series will kick off this Saturday, February 19th at 11am SLT. The Series consists of two competitions – the Open (open to all) and the Pro (for the top 20 surfers and those that advance).

The Arctic Challenge will be the first of its kind…surfing in cold, icy waters with the added challenge of whales and ice bergs. It will be fun to see the surfers braving the elements…I hope they dress warmly enough?

The surf competitions are fun events! Lots of chatter, music, dancing, and the excitement of the surfers on the wave. DJ Dan will be spinning for these events and he LOVES to take requests, so the music can always be varied.

This Series is sponsored by Sculpty Creations Wildlife. Sculpty Creations by Jon Haskel provides Second Life residents with over 300 species of wild and farm animals including birds, fish, and mammals. Many of these are animated and are so very lifelike. We always use Jon’s animals on our sims as they provide a very life-like experience. If you are in the market for some furry or scaly additions to your home (and even if you aren’t), you should definitely head to Sculpty Creations on Extrem Island!

All are welcome to come out and support the surfers for the events, so make plans to come to our Winter SOLstice sims on the 19th and/or 26th of February at 11am SLT!   The Spectator Stands will be open for the events and that will be the only entry point during the competition.  If you would just like to visit any other time, come to our Arctic Surf sim and explore from there.

~ Wave Crashing upon a New Sim! ~

The Waves of a Virtual Life

To live a Second Life, you must willing to discover,

what you find might surprise you;

all the fun and activities that are covered

Beauty, art and activities abound…

it might simply be the creativity, the role play or the craze

but to find your niche, you have to take a look around.

One such discovery could be,

the spray, the foam, the waves…

All that has been created for the virtual Sea

The surf waves, scripted beauties that can provide something new

to those that are landlocked; the chance to ride upon a surfboard

the opportunity taken by so few

Take a ride upon a wave,

learn to control the board like a pro

listen to all on the beaches as they might rave!

The oceans of Second Life are fun

with the willingness to try something new

across the waves you will run

Teleport to a beach when you are bored

or when you need solace or space

paddle out to the wave, to the crashing and the roar

Rip along the waves, feel the virtual air

As you learn your new moves…

you will feel as if you are flying without a care.

There is a new beach on the grid…one offering a great surfing experience.  Renn Luik, the creator of The Mother Road, has developed a life-like beach experience on Wing Princess for Mahina Kohime.  The beach is natural and open with the required amenities…shower, shelter and sand…just what is needed for a long day of shredding the waves.  This surf sim is on a full prim sim and is performing very well so far.  The HP Surf Teahupoo wave rolls in with a crash fading out into SSi Fluffies… the set up is beautiful.  The tidal pools are a great realistic touch and the protected floating pool is a nice place to hang out to watch the surfers.

Check out this sim soon…if you don’t have a board (yet), there are loaners there… but believe me, once you try, you’ll want your own board for sure!  And right there on the beach, you can pick up an SSi scripted board with Analog Jun‘s graphic design!

Grab a friend or go alone…it is an experience to be enjoyed…shred across the wave, and feel the virtual air… enjoy !

’til then…

Surf for a Cure–2010 (A Success)

The Riders for a Cure – Surf for a Cure Marathon was held yesterday, 7/10/10. The event was deemed successful as the riders met their goal – raise more linden than in 2009! Lissa Pinion put this event together and really brought a lot of people out to surf the waves of SL – 7 sims were visited, or maybe the better word is ‘invaded’ in nearly 13 hours. The Surfers raised linden for Relay for Life in Second Life to benefit the American Cancer Society. Sebastian Saramago of SSi designed a special board to be sold to benefit RFL of SL too… all in all, the event raised $82,754L!!!

Tremendous words of thanks go to all that took part, shredding the waves from 9am to 10pm – the sim owners, the surfers, the supporters! Thank you to Sebastian for creating a limited release board with 100% of sales going to the RFL of SL campaign. HUGE HUGE thank you to Lissa for putting this together and sharing her sentiments and thanks all day long, encouraging others to get out and help raise funds.

The RFL of SL team that I am on, Eternal Beacon, is thrilled to have helped and sponsored this team of surfers through their incredible day of fun, laughs, surf and togetherness. It is events like this that bring a community together… 🙂

This photo is from Sebastian Saramago’s flickr. My own photos never show Sebastian from the front, and he managed to get most of us facing the camera (an amazing feat). Pictured in the photo are from top clockwise: Max, Nash, Sunshine, Cloudy, Bobbi, Syx, Thalia, Sebastian, Luscious, Surf, Colleen, Lissa, Emma and Bandit. This photo was taken during the last hour of the day at Mori Pwani…

Thank you all again!!!
